Slide core — definition
A moving part of the tool that withdraws sideways, allowing the part to carry geometry that does not lie in the draw direction.
Without slide cores, a casting can only carry geometry that releases straight out when the die opens. A slide core solves this by moving perpendicular to the opening direction before the part is ejected.
Slide cores are entirely feasible and completely normal — but they cost. The tool is more expensive, the cycle longer, and an additional parting line appears where the slide meets the die, leaving a visible seam on the part.
If the geometry can be changed so the slide becomes unnecessary, that is often the simplest saving in the whole design review.
