Casting tool — definition

The product-specific steel die the part is cast in — the single investment that decides whether casting pays off.

The tool is made from high-alloy steel and consists of at least two halves separated along the parting line, plus cores, ejector pins, a gating system, overflows and cooling channels.

Cost is driven by size, number of cavities, number of slide cores, steel grade, surface requirements and lead time. A multi-cavity tool costs more but gives a lower price per part.

At Rolvsøy Metallindustri the tool is procured through our preferred tool suppliers, matched to our machines, and the customer owns it. We maintain it throughout the production run.
