Material certificate EN 10204 — definition
A standardised document confirming that the material supplied meets the specification ordered.
EN 10204 defines several types. Type 2.2 is a declaration by the manufacturer based on non-specific inspection. Type 3.1 is issued by the manufacturer independent inspection function and covers the specific consignment. Type 3.2 is additionally validated by the purchaser representative or a third party.
3.1 is what is most often required in industrial supply, because it ties an analysis to the exact material you received.
For castings the certificate chain is worth understanding: the alloy is normally documented from the ingot supplier, while traceability from ingot to finished part has to be handled by the foundry.
If you need a material certificate, say so in the enquiry. We will then establish what can actually be provided before you write it into a specification.
