Ingot — definition
A cast block of metal of known alloy composition — the form in which raw material is delivered to a foundry.
Both aluminium and zinc arrive here as ingots from established suppliers. The ingots are already alloyed to a specification, so the foundry melts and casts rather than alloys.
The ingot is also the starting point for traceability. If you want to follow a finished part back to a melt, the trail has to start here — with the ingot delivery and the melt number.
Our aluminium raw material comes from Metallco at Toten, where aluminium scrap is re-alloyed into full-value casting alloys to international standards.
