Contract manufacturing — definition
A production model in which the supplier manufactures the customer products to the customer drawing, without owning the product.
Rolvsøy Metallindustri is a pure contract manufacturer. We have no products of our own, no brand of our own, and we never compete with our customers.
The model presupposes a product-specific casting tool, which the customer owns. That is why volume comes up in every single enquiry: the tool has to be amortised over a number of parts, and below a certain series it does not pay off for either party.
In return the model gives the customer full control. The tool is yours, the drawing is yours, and the product is yours.
