ISO 8062 — definition

The standard defining dimensional tolerances and machining allowances for castings.

ISO 8062 is the reference when tolerances on castings need to be specified so both parties read them the same way. It defines DCTG grades for dimensional tolerances and RMA values for recommended machining allowance.

Which grade is achievable depends on the process. As general industry knowledge, high pressure die casting is tightest, gravity casting sits in the middle and sand casting is loosest — but the actual grade also depends on the size of the part, the geometry and where the dimension sits relative to the parting line.

Practical point: dimensions crossing the parting line always carry a looser tolerance than dimensions within one die half, because they are affected by how the two halves align. If a critical dimension spans the parting line, say so — it can often be moved.

The grade Rolvsøy Metallindustri holds as cast is stated per part in the quotation.
